Where lawyers create value

Technical expertise is only part of the answer.

As some legal tasks become faster and increasingly technology-enabled, value moves beyond simply producing legal documents.

It comes from what lawyers do with it.

01

Judgment

Seeing what matters. Identifying risk. Challenging assumptions. Making sound decisions.

02

Client focus

Understanding the client’s business, pressures, priorities, and what a useful outcome looks like.

03

Communication

Turning complex legal thinking into clear advice people can understand and act on.

04

Working with others

Taking instructions well, collaborating effectively, managing expectations, and building trust.

05

Leadership

Leading matters and teams, developing others, building client relationships, and contributing to firm growth.

06

Technology-enabled working

Using AI and other tools effectively while knowing when to question, verify, intervene, and apply independent judgment.

Together, these capabilities help lawyers turn technical expertise into advice clients can trust, use, and act on.

Building the skills that matter more

Development connected to the lawyer’s actual work.

As AI becomes part of everyday legal work, the capabilities that distinguish excellent lawyers become more important, not less. Katalyst develops those capabilities through targeted learning at each career stage, combined with individual coaching.

01

Targeted workshops

Workshops are selected and adapted to the capabilities lawyers need at different career stages — from junior associate through to partner.

02

Individual coaching

Coaching focuses on each lawyer’s actual work, responsibilities, strengths, challenges, and development priorities.

AI-supported analysis helps identify individual development needs, patterns, and priorities — giving the coaching a sharper and more individualized focus.

03

Practical outputs

The analysis is combined with Katalyst’s legal learning resources and experience developing lawyers at every level to create something practical that the lawyer can use.

That might be feedback on real legal writing, preparation for a client conversation, a matter or delegation approach, an AI-supported research workflow, a review framework, a supervision strategy, or a focused development action.

04

Apply + follow up

Lawyers apply these outputs in their work.

Follow-up coaching looks at what happened, strengthens the approach, and identifies the next development priority.
