Turning community concerns into workable solutions for Hin Nam No
Communities living around Hin Nam No had concerns and priorities that needed to inform a wider World Heritage process. GIZ ProFEB engaged Katalyst to adapt design thinking within a specially tailored FPIC4WH process.
District synthesis workshops brought community perspectives together; a provincial solutioning session then helped government and technical partners explore practical responses. We were proud to contribute to the wider government-led process that culminated in Hin Nam No’s inclusion in the transboundary World Heritage property with Phong Nha-Ke Bang in 2025.

Strengthening the management foundations of Hin Nam No
World Heritage recognition also called for strong management arrangements. Katalyst reviewed organizational capacity across the Hin Nam No National Park Office, the Department of Heritage and PAFO Khammouane.
Working with the teams involved, we translated findings into recommendations, action plans and practical tools to support clearer roles, stronger coordination and ongoing management.

Building coordinated action against illegal wildlife trade
Illegal wildlife trade cuts across mandates, institutions and places. Working with an alliance led by the Department of Forest Inspection, Katalyst designed and facilitated consultations that mapped the wider system, surfaced coordination gaps and bottlenecks, and helped participants identify shared priorities.
The process created a stronger basis for action planning and coordinated follow-through.

Co-designing plastic-reduction action with minimarts
Working with MoNRE, Swisscontact wanted minimarts to help shape a practical pilot for reducing single-use plastic. We were proud to support that approach—bringing supply- and demand-side perspectives into a 2023 co-design process.
A 2024 follow-up then helped participants agree tasks, responsibilities, timelines and resources, moving the idea toward an actionable pilot shaped by the businesses involved.

Association Anoulak and Econox Laos have built Learning Youth on the Move as a space for young conservationists to grow. Katalyst has been proud to contribute over three years.
